The Elgin/St. Thomas Youth Employment Counselling Centre was successful in securing funding to source out and secure speakers, presenters and facilitators; and, train youth in public speaking.
Goals:
- Youth Speakers' Bureau will:
- provide speakers who not only have the background but can relate to youth, speaking in the language of the audience to elicit a positive response
- provide topics that will cover a wide range, including social and health issues such as peer pressure, bullying, voting, dating, media, volunteering, careers, the internet, how to get and keep a job, and going back to school
It is expected that:
- Youth who are better informed about some of the most important aspects of their social, career and family lives
- Improved decision-making by youth who understand more about their own situation
- Youth who are confident in their own ability to speak in public
- Youth emerging as more engaged citizens in their society
