How to Quit a Job
Quitting a job the right way can improve your chances of getting a good recommendation, and the door may be left open so you can come back later.
Here are some hints:
- Don’t tell the boss off. When you quit a job, you may want to but don’t
- Don’t ask the boss whether you should quit. Don’t go further than talking out your situation. If you do, she/he may urge you to stay. If you leave anyway, you will embarrass both yourself and her/ him by rejecting her/his counsel.
- Let the boss be the first to hear that you are leaving
- Always give notice. If your job calls for special qualifications, try to help your employer pick a successor, and perhaps even offer to stay long enough to break him/her in
- Leave your work in good shape with no loose ends, clean up all jobs
